Sydney Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies
Gavin Smith
We were very fortunate to have been an aerial rigger and aerial performer for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies (SOCOG).
For nine months leading up to games we we're involved with the rigging installations and training for the ceremonies. Our contribution as a trapeze artist to the performances in the Tin Symphony section was on an apparatus knows as the sewing machine, a combination of 6 rotating trapeze bars around an axle while being driven around the performance area in the arena.
Exciting times, building the winch systems for the flying effects for both live loads and props that were flown on 13 overhead catenary systems
